Place your
paper strip on
the bar scale
and determine
the ground
distance
between
point (A) and
point (B)
as you did in
the previous
example. Remember to immediately erase your penciled "tick marks" on your map.
Keeping both
"tick marks"
together (on
paper and map),
carefully pivot
your paper until
another straight
portion of the
curved line is
aligned with the
edge of your paper. Again, place an intermediate "tick mark" at the center
of the irregular feature exactly at the point where the straight edge of your
paper leaves the irregular feature. Repeat this procedure using intermediate
"tick marks" until you arrive at the designated objective (point B).
Place an
intermediate
"tick mark"
at the center
of the irregular
feature exactly
at the point
where the
straight edge
of your paper
leaves the irregular feature.
Your intermediate "tick mark" should
mark both your map and your paper.
Place a
"tick mark" (A)
on your paper
at the beginning point.
